Questioning

Interest Focus :

Definition

Questioning allows students to pursue their ideas and explore the world around them. Being able to ask questions about who, what, where, when, why, and how, enables students to construct their knowledge and develop an understanding of concepts and experiences.

Why Use it?/ What This Skill Develops...

Encouraging students to ask a variety of different questions allows them to capitalize on their interest in and curiosity about objects and events in their surrounding environment. Questioning by students and teachers helps in the development of higher order thinking skills. When questions are formulated by students before, during, and after explorations, it results in conducting further investigations of interest to the students. Questioning is interconnected with skills such as predicting, observing, and making connections.
